Congress Plaza Hotel

The Story Behind Congress Plaza Hotel

Easily the most haunted hotel in Chicago, the Congress Plaza Hotel is an absolute must-visit. That is, if you're not completely turned off by staying at the site where America's first serial killer, Dr. H.H. Holmes would pick up his victims.

North Tower - But maybe it's worth the visit to meet a famous ghost. The hotel was also the home of America's most famous gangster, Al Capone, who lived on the 8th floor and still haunts the north tower to this day.

Room 411 - Home of a female spirit, this room is guaranteed to keep you awake throughout the night. If you manage to fall asleep, don't be surprised to feel a sudden kick to jolt you awake.

Sixth Floor - Back in the 1930s, a Polish mother became overwhelmed with depression. She killed herself by jumping out a window. Unfortunately, she took her two children with her. However, one body was never found. Instead a mischievous child spirit can be found messing with guests on the 6th floor.

Other spirits can be found throughout the hotel. In the banquet halls you can find the spirit of a former worker who died after being trapped behind a wall. He now reaches through the ball to startle unsuspecting guests. Another female ghost will share her deepest secrets by whispering close to your ear. And then there's Peg Leg Johnny. A hobo who died in the hotel, he's a very active spirit. No doubt, you may hear his wooden leg stumping in the halls. He's harmless as he will play little tricks on on the guests.
